Dinner at the Catfish Hotel

February 10, 2012

A couple of weekends ago Shane and I attended a Blue-Gray Alliance planning meeting in Nashville, TN for the upcoming 150th Anniversary  re-enactment of the Battle of Shiloh.  We ended up traveling down to the Shiloh Battlefield on Sunday to refresh our memories of this beautiful place, as we had not been in the area since the 135th anniversary of the battle (in 1997!).  The Shiloh Battlefield is an amazing National Military Park and we had an opportunity to walk the Sunken Road and view Bloody Pond once again.  Almost 4,000 acres in size, the park offers many opportunities to explore the history of our country.  As we drove around the park we came upon the classic Catfish Hotel Restaurant, on the Tennessee River.  Just an FYI for anyone attending the 150th event: you must eat at this place.  I actually found the restaurant using the Yelp app on my iPad.  Shane was already familiar with the place and said that re-enactors have been going there for years. I can see why!  We arrived just before the locals started lining up out the door.  I knew at that point that we had come to the right place.  The fried catfish, hushpuppies, and coleslaw were incredible and a great way to finish our stay in the area.  The Wide Awake Films crew is very excited to be returning to Shiloh in late March to film this historic event. I am sure there will be another trip to the Catfish Hotel!
